Vitamin D is reported as a possible risk factor for the development of diabetes in several
epidemiologic studies. Vitamin D deficiency and diabetes mellitus are two common conditions
and they are widely prevalent across all ages, races, geographical regions, and socioeconomic
conditions. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common cause of blindness; the association between
vitamin D (VitD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications such as DR has
been unclear.
Objectives:
To investigate the status of 25 OH vitamin D3, in Sudanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
with and without DRand assessing the relationship of 25 (OH) of vitamin D deficiency with
diabetic retinopathy (DR).
